Welcome to KJD Furniture Design
Bespoke furniture, designed and made for you
The three-panel screen shown above is made from Ash. The hinges are what I call 'expanded comb' with a hidden steel pin. No metal fittings are visible. The finials and feet are in oak for contrast. This was upholstered by a friend of mine and 'lives' in a beautiful stone house in Brittany. _________________ The traditionally styled four drawer unit shown below is in Elm and was the first piece I designed in France after finally finishing the renovations on our new home in beautiful Brittany. | About UsHi, Welcome to this site. I am a furniture designer/maker working out of my studio workshop in the heart of rural Brittany. I have over three decades experience in designing furniture for clients in the UK and internationally. My portfolio ranges from traditional furniture of many styles, to modern pieces with clean and elegant lines. I love to make furniture, and whatever I make comes from the heart. Design ServiceI will work with you to design individual pieces that suit your style, home and personality. Whether you already have a design in mind, or are looking for inspiration and assistance, you can rely on me. The Design Process If you are interested in finding out how I can help you design for you, check out the Design Process page. In it I outline a 'typical' design - delivery scenario that seems to work really well for me and for my clients. |
Our Approach
I am happy to start from scratch, or can work with a style you are familiar with and take it forward from there.
Each piece is designed and lovingly crafted from start to finish. I work in solid European hardwood, harvested from sustainable woodland sources to create furniture that lasts decades. I select the finest local kiln-dried hardwood with each specific project in mind.
If you were wondering about the manufacturing process, take a look at the Toy-box Project page above where I describe how I made this unique and beautiful piece of designer furniture. It took me a couple of weeks to turn the rough planks of Oak and Chestnut into the finished toy-box which is now in a lovely family home in Bedfordshire. When the children have finally grown up and flown the nest it will become a blanket chest.

These are a few pieces I have made recently. I am particularly proud of the Screen/Room-dividers which I designed and made a couple of months ago. They were upholstered beautifully by a close mate of mine and are a stunning addition to a beautiful stone cottage here in Brittany.
Ongoing: Check out the guitar and music stands on the Music Accessories page. I have just finished an Oak bench which I call the Winter Warmer - check out the Blog. |
